The Gif was invented in 1987 by Steve Wilhite, then an employee of CompuServe. The GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a digital picture format frequently used on the internet. It can store multiple images in a single file, allowing the user to create slideshows or animations.
Since its invention a debate rages over its pronunciation “Gif” or “Jif”. To close the case once and for all, know that its inventor, Steve, wanted to echo the American peanut butter brand “Jif”, hence the pronunciation with a soft G,”Jif”!
