Lazy Sunday – The anniversary mixtape of Ready To Die

the lazy sunday, a mix and a day at home

Wax Poetics & Chris Read pay a tribute to the very classic Ready To Die, the essential album of Notorious B.I.G.

Today it’s Sunday, the day of the Lord! But it is also the day of our weekly meeting of the much anticipated Lazy Sunday Mix!

Last September, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the release of Ready To Die, the now classic album of Biggie Smalls. For those who do not know him yet, Notorious BIG is the emblematic figure of the 90’s US Hip Hop, the Golden Era for the connoisseurs.

For this anniversary, Wax Poetics Magazine in collaboration with WhoSampled and Dj Chris Read present the Notorious BIG ‘Ready to Die’ 20th Anniversary Mixtape! That’s exactly the kind of mixtape that the samples and 70s-90s music lovers expected to hear.

This mix, barely lasting an hour, connects the original artists with the samples that were used in the tracks of Ready To Die. We discover and rediscover with pleasure some artists such as Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Isaac Hayes for the classics of the Soul and Funk, but also Snoop Dogg, Biz Markie, A Tribe Called Quest, Lords of the Underground and many others for the classics of the Hip Hop. In short, a well made mixtape with the essentials tracks that we like to listen without moderation.
